Facebook Pages 20 Percent Rule for Cover Images – Gone

They were forbidden from using more than 20% text on their Facebook Page Cover Images.

This rule was changed originally in March 2013 when Facebook told us all to put our business website address, email, mailing address, phone number, etc. into our About page, not on the cover image! Then they also restricted the text allowed on the image to 20% or less.

Now, that was hard to prove, sometimes, but it kept down the text and the “free ads” from appearing in the cover image for a brand.  Well, as of July 1, 2013 Facebook’s Terms of Service have changed again, and noticeably missing is the 20% rule! This is according to Marketing Land article by by on July 2, 2013.

Although Mari Smith, the self-made Facebook guru and one of the nicest person you may ever meet, said on Mar 25, 2013 – that had Facebook quietly relaxed its Page Guidelines around Cover Images.

Some people will be quite upset by this move, because it will cause the cover images to become cluttered with text again (at least that is what some fear will happen). On the other hand, some people will be quite happy that they can add a phone number to their cover image now, or some other text about a special, for example. Causing them to change their cover images more often, which I think would be a good thing.

But, the question really is, “What do you think?” Is the fact that
